Bibliothèque Reginald-J.P.-Dawson

  • End date of the work: 2013
  • Location: Mont-Royal, QC
  • Cost of construction: 6.7M$
  • Project description:

This project represents an expansion of approximately 2,000 m² as well as a redevelopment of the existing building of a similar size. The electromechanical design of the library, the energy simulation, the commissioning as well as the LEED certification were carried out there. After a few integrated design sessions, the decision was made to keep the architectural concept of the existing building and build a modern addition using all the principles of a sustainable building (natural lighting, natural ventilation, efficient envelope, healthy materials and quality of optimal air). The existing systems have been preserved while improving their efficiency by replacing a few components. The new construction is heated by radiant floors and air conditioned when natural ventilation is insufficient. The entire new and existing building uses geothermal energy, which has allowed us to reduce total operating costs by more than 55%. Significant grants from Hydro-Quebec and Gaz Métro were obtained. The MRA certification team was involved from the start of the project until the building was certified. This building is the first library in Montreal to receive LEED-NC certification, Gold level.
